Anna’s Greenhouse: What Plant You Should Buy Based on Your Personality

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

As the weather gets warmer, we tend to think about plants a little more. Walking into a greenhouse can be overwhelming if you are new to the plant parent life. If you are at a loss for what to buy, I have listed some easy-to-care-for plants below that you can buy to reflect your personality to those who enter your space.

  1. Outgoing, Life of the Party – Bromeliad: This bright, spiky plant steals the show. As a tropical houseplant, it needs bright light and water towards the base of the leaves. The flowers can be pink, orange, or yellow, all of which are vibrant additions to the leafy plant. Although this plant may die after just a couple of years, it produces offsets that can be planted to grow new ones.

  2. Calm, Understanding – Chinese Evergreen: This plant has varying leaf colors: from silver to green, to red, to pink, to grey, it is never boring. It is durable and thrives in low-medium light with moderate watering. Despite the lack of flowers, this plant has a clearly interesting personality.

  3. Reliable, Simplistic – Norfolk Island Pine: Although this is a tree, it can still be grown as a houseplant and can even be dressed up for Christmas! It requires bright, indirect light and moderate water. As a tree, it is built to withstand rain or shine, so it is a solid plant to have around a household.

Of course, there is no lack of personalities that exist in the world, so this list is just the first part of a longer one. Best of luck to new plant parents!
