Margaret Simon, the 11 year old who got most of us through our first periods, crushes, bras and even questioning our faith, is finally coming to life on the big screen. Nearly 50 years after its publication, Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume is finally becoming a movie!
Blume has been highly selective when it comes to movie adaptations. Over the course of her career only two other books have been adapted into movies. Forever made it to small screen as a made for TV movie in 1978 and Tiger Eyes was Blume’s first big screen adaptation in 2012, directed by her son, Lawrence Blume.
In August, Blume posted a tweet saying “So which of my books, kids and/or adult would you want to see adapted for series or movie? I ask because I’m in LA meeting with many talented people. I think the time has come.”
Kelly Fremon Craig, the director of 2016’s The Edge of Seventeen and James L. Brooks who directed the famous tear-jerker Terms of Endearment will serve as producers alongside Blume. So get ready for a emotional, yet empowering coming of age film.
