Boston is home to a wealth of bakeries, restaurants and food trucks, all serving amazingly unique creations. This guide, made for tourists and residents alike, uncovers some hidden gems that can satisfy even the strongest sweet tooth!

L.A. Burdick Homemade Chocolates

220 Clarendon Street, Boston, MA

Inspired by the fine cuisines of Europe, Larry Burdick was inspired to bring a taste home to the U.S. The chocolate and pastries of France and Switzerland led him to open the first L.A. Burdick shop in New York, with the franchise eventually making its way to Boston. Located just off the fabulous Newbury Street, this quaint bakery serves delicious pastries and specialty coffees, along with the best hot chocolate in the state, known as their signature “drinking chocolate.”

Max Brenner

745 Boylston Street, Boston, MA

For all the chocolate lovers out there, Max Brenner is the place to go.  Claiming to have “freed” chocolate, they have something to satisfy any craving, whether it’s for milk, dark, or white chocolate. In addition to a standard dinner menu, Max Brenner has an extensive dessert menu. Before leaving this hotspot, you have to stop buy the bakery/goody shop for a little sweetness to take with you!

Cookie Monstah      After learning her baking skills from her mother, Missy Gale brought her talents to the streets and has blessed Boston with her exquisite cookies. The Cookie Monstah truck offers a selection of freshly made cookies and ice cream, making the perfect and portable sweet treat. The chocolate chip-covered truck can usually be found in the Boston Common or by the Greenway Carousel.

Boston Burger Company

1100 Boylston Street, Boston, MA      Boston Burger Company not only flips the traditional burger on its head, but puts a new spin on the classic milkshake. Known as the “Freak Frappes”, BBC piles their milkshakes high with cake, cookies, and virtually any topping you can think of. They are quite the sight to see, and taste even better!

Mike Pastry v. Modern Pastry

300 Hanover Street, Boston, MA; 257 Hanover Street, Boston, MA

For those not native to Boston, you may be unaware of the intense rivalry between these two North End bakeries. Take caution, asking a Bostonian about their bakery of choice will spark a passionate about which spot they are loyal to, and  why it is superior to the other. Personally I am from a Modern family, and we enjoy their delicious ricotta pies every Easter. Regardless, either location will provide you with a variety of traditional, Italian desserts. Try them both, and choose your side!
