When I entered my first year of college, I thought I knew exactly what I wanted to and how I wanted to achieve it. I had a plan since my sophomore year of high-school and I was planning on sticking to that. As the second semester rolled around I was having a hard time being interested or passionate about my studies. I was struggling as I still wanted the career, but didn’t want the next 5-6 years of my life to be like this. I never once thought I would change my major, but boy was I wrong.

They say it’s okay to change your major and that it’s more common than not. With the plan I had when I first entered school, I never thought that was true. However, in a way you really do find yourself when you go to college. I realized in the second semester during my psychology 101 class that I was very interested in this field. I gave it a couple of months before officially changing anything, but over time I really knew this was the field I wanted to be in.

My family and friends were really helpful and supportive during this time. As well as my academic advisor, she helped me explore my options and figure out it was something I really wanted to do. I’m still wary of not having a set plan, but know everything will work itself out over time. However, I’m glad I changed my major and it’s never too late to change or reevaluate your passions.
