Tech Week is coming up for Lasell College Drama Club, and it’s that time of year when your top priority is drinking enough coffee to memorize your script, music, choreography, and somehow fit homework in as well! Here are eight thoughts we all have during theatre season!
1. WHERE IS THE CAST LIST?!
It’s the day after auditions and you’ve either forgotten how your audition went entirely or you’re dwelling on every detail. All you can think of is finding the cast list, and praying that your name is on it.
2. Do I even like this play?
You signed up for the fall musical out of habit, the actual production was an afterthought. No matter which show or part, you were determined to stand in the spotlight. But now you’re wondering if you even like the script you’re holding.
3. Why didn’t I write down the blocking?!
It’s not professional to forget to write down the staging you learn, but it happens! You forgot a pencil or you scribbled and can’t read your own writing, either way the director is getting whatever feeble attempt you can make at reenacting the scene.
4. This choreography is too hard.
Trying to balance dancing and singing is difficult! Is my choreographer trying to kill me? Oh wait, this is actually pretty easy! Wait, what was that move? Never mind, I take that back.
5. We need to be off book by when?!
No matter how talented you are at memorizing lines and songs the deadline always catches you by surprise. You just pray you’re not the only one calling for a line every 10 minutes.
6. Why did I even do this to myself?
Between rehearsals, reviewing and memorizing your parts, and tech week you often feel like breaking down and crying. Is it worth the stress?
7. Oh, I remember now!
Once you’re actually on stage, hitting every dance move like a champ and singing your heart out it finally feels worth it. That overwhelming feeling of pride and accomplishment floods in and all of the hard work is worth it.
8. I wonder what play we’ll do next year…
It’s a never ending cycle for most of us thespians!
