Today’s Fabulous Fella of Lasell is junior Seán McGlone. Hailing from Hanover, Mass., McGlone is a Laser with strong Irish roots. Although his traditional Gaelic name is not on his birth certificate (he blames his nurse), McGlone is 100 percent Irish, his father from Belfast and his mother’s family from Keri. He has learned from his family to work hard and be proud, and that there is always a way to get to where you want to go. McGlone’s parents are very important to him.
“My mom is that smartest woman I’ve ever met,” he says. “She works hard and is very open-minded. And when my father focuses on something, he puts his head down and goes with it. He is a role model, and has the Irish spirit.”
Lasell is also in the McGlone family, as Sean’s sister is a Lasell alum. Although it wasn’t appealing for him to attend the same school as her, McGlone appreciated Lasell’s small size and location. He also took to Professor Franklin and Dr. Wardyga, and their passion for the communications department. Deciding to come here “pulled the confidence out of me, I was a pretty shy kid before,” says McGlone.
Since starting at Lasell, he has become very involved. McGlone was an orientation leader this past summer, is the co-president of the pick-up soccer league, a member of the Tennis Club and enjoys doing stand-up during Lasell’s open-mic nights. He is also the news editor for the 1851 Chronicle.
“I want the Chronicle to be the organization on campus. I want us to have that recognition, but I know it’s not going to be easy,” said McGlone.
This communications major has known he wanted to go into the journalism field since high school, through an internship he took his junior year. When he started the internship, his first story was half-crossed out. But through all that he learned, and lots of hard work, McGlone’s final story landed on the front page.
As for the future, he would like to be a newspaper journalist, working his way up to having a recognizable name in the industry.
