Five of the Worst Coachella Trends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Every year during the second and third weekends in April, hundreds of thousands of people flock to the Indio, Calif. desert for the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Although Coachella is known for their incredible performers and amazing special guests, it has also become one of the biggest fashion events of the year. Unfortunately, not all fashion is good fashion, so here are some of the worst trends from the 2017 festival.

The Half Dressed Look:

Don’t get me wrong, I think pencil skirts and crop tops are a great look. However, Katy Perry’s outfit looks like she forgot to put on a shirt. The athlesuire look she was going for with a Nike sports bra and matching sneakers gets thrown off with a tight, glittery pencil skirt. Not to mention, a tight pencil skirt is probably the last thing I’d want to wear to a music festival.

The Grown Up Look:

Kendall Jenner typically has great style, which is why I was so disappointed when I saw her in this outfit. The sequined crop top and wide-leg trousers are great. However, her weird striped/sequined button up and fedora make her look like a Real Housewife of Beverly Hills on a vacation to Morocco.

The Weed Manicure:

I’m not here to give you my opinions on recreational marijuana, but I just don’t see the point in this trend. If you’re the type of person to get one of these, presumably you like weed, so I don’t understand why you would want to paste it on your nails instead of, you know… smoking it?

Cultural Appropriation:

With so many cute fashion trends, there should be no reason to misuse other cultures’ symbols!

Littering:

So this isn’t a fashion trend, but I’m a firm believer in the idea that beauty comes from within. Can you imagine if every one of the 126,000 people at Coachella picked up their trash instead of just leaving it? Sure, it probably won’t end global warming, but it’s the little steps that will make a difference.

In addition to Her Campus shes been doing theatre for eight years and this spring she'll be in her fourth production of Vagina Monologues. In the future she'd love to become the next Miranda Priestly or the frontwoman in a girl-punk band.
