How to Dress for Halloween When You Don’t Want to be “Sexy”

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

As Halloween is just around the corner, it’s the time of year when everyone is scrambling to find a costume. Especially for girls, the pressure to look cute and sexy on Halloween can feel overwhelming when your usual style is more comfortable, or conservative. As someone who has never had a sexy Halloween, these are my tips on how to find a costume that’s perfect for you.

The first thing I always do is, of course, think of a costume. For me, something simple that doesn’t require too much money is always the way to go. I usually find myself being some sort of character, from a show, an animal, or something similar. Usually, the idea of being sexy comes in with costumes like professions, such as cops and nurses, or something like a devil and angel. These are also fairly basic, and we want to be unique!

With this being said, characters from tv shows usually are wearing regular clothes. It’s what they’re wearing, hair, and accessories that make them able to be identified. Keeping this in mind opens up the opportunity to wear something you already own, which means you know you will be comfortable. Many characters have signature jeans and t-shirt, a dress, or a suit that they are often seen in. Additionally, if the character is from a movie there are usually a few options to choose from.

With all this being said, the costume isn’t everything! A simple outfit and nice hair and makeup can really pull together a look. Feeling comfortable and confident is so important to have a good time. Dressing appropriately for the weather is also something to consider, depending on your plans, so keep that in mind. Happy Halloween!
