The sports teams at Lasell College are known for their tight bond, and the Women’s Volleyball team is no exception. This team is full of good friends with a mutual love for volleyball. Cassandra Stout, captain and senior, reminisces on what it was like to play Volleyball at Lasell College.
“My favorite thing about playing volleyball the last four years is the friendships I’ve made,” Stout said. “The girls on the team became my sisters. I will always have love for my teammates.”
The captains this season were senior Cassandra Stout and juniors Caitlyn Garcia and Lauren Piper. Stout is the only senior on the team this year.
“I’m sad it’s over. I’m going to miss playing with these girls, but I couldn’t have asked for a better team to spend my last season with,” Stout said.
Juniors include Garcia, Piper, Michele Canestro, Taylor Tiezzi, Magdalen Trainer, and Meredith Eagan. Sophomores include Olivia Addington, Maeghan Calzetta-Partridge, Lucinda Thomas and Cassidy Murray. First years are Amanda DiLeonardo and Kelly Cappitella.
On team dynamic, Stout believes the team’s closeness lead them to a successful season.
“We spend most of our time together outside of volleyball and that makes our team dynamic so great on the court,” she said. “I think that was a huge part of our success this season.”
Women’s volleyball is part of the GNAC conference, and made it to the quarterfinals this year. The women also battle teams in the area, like Simmons College, Suffolk University, and Johnson and Wales University. They travel all over New England and the Northeast playing a game they all love.
Overall the team was 12-19 this season, 6-5 in conference. The women are excited to come back to the court next year, but will miss their dear friend Stout.
We wish Stout the best of luck after graduation, and the rest of Women’s volleyball a good season next year.
