On February 6, 2020, Mean Girls The Musical was put on at Citizens Bank Opera House in Boston, MA. In my personal opinion, the play was just as good as the movie, with classic quotes mixed with amazing songs to put on an extremely entertaining show.Â
They did a very good job making sure that it was very close to the actual movie. Using certain outfits, scenes, and quotes, I felt like I was back at North Shore High School. The actors also were very good at their roles, and really embodied their Mean Girls characters.Â
I feel that the fact that it was a musical actually enhanced the show and enforced crucial issues that surround teens today. Some of the topics that they covered in the musical included bullying, sexual harassment, cyberbullying, eating disorders, peer pressure, and the struggles of fitting in. I felt that there was at least one moment in the musical that everyone could relate to, no matter how old you were.Â
The songs throughout the musical were really great and added to the show immensely. I feel that different parts of the play I had not understood before were better explained through the use of the various songs.Â
I also felt that the actors did a very good job portraying the various characters in the show. Each character is very unique and iconic in their own way, so they really had to understand the characters and their roles to fully grasp the emotions of each character they played.Â
When I walked into the Opera House to see the show, I wasn’t sure how great it was going to really be, but after seeing it, I was very impressed and would recommend it to anyone who needs a girl’s night out with their best friends.
