I am the Vice President of NACE (National Association of Catering and Events) Lasell. NACE is a national club, and our school is part of the Boston chapter. We are able to go to various events monthly to network with industry professionals and learn about industry trends. On October fifth, NACE Lasell headed to the first event we could go to this year, “The After Party,” on the Sir Winston Yacht in Boston. This was the first event we have been able to go in since March 2020, right before the pandemic, so we were ecstatic to attend.Â
I have never been on a yacht before, so I was so excited to go to this event. It was about current trends related to event after parties, so we knew it was going to be filled with fun. When we walked onto the five floor boat, I was amazed. I had never thought of a yacht as an event venue before, and it was great to see the transformation that the sponsors did to the boat. 617 Productions were the sponsors of the event, and they did an amazing job.Â
We headed up to the third floor for the true “cocktail hour” and networking portion of the event. They had fruit and cheese trays, lasagna, sliders, and wine and whiskey tastings. Since I am a senior, I have become familiar with many of the professionals that are at these meetings, so it was great to catch up with them and discuss what we have been up to within the industry. The Boston chapter president gave a welcome speech, and then we were able to go to the top deck for the presentation regarding the after party trends.Â
The top deck looked like something out of a dream. It was decked out in neon lights, a DJ set up in the corner and even a dancing platform. Surrounding the platform were various cocktail tables with vases filled with glow sticks and light-up glasses. We were so excited for the presentation to begin.Â
The beginning of the presentation had dancers coming out and inviting us all to come dance with them. The DJ played great music and we had so much fun dancing and laughing together. Then, they started announcing the vendors that can provide experiences for after parties. The first was a bellydancer, she was amazing and could balance a sword on her head while she danced. The second was a great saxophone player. It was so cool to watch him play and the dancers dancing around him. The last entertainer was a crowd favorite.Â
All of a sudden, a massive robot man on stilts comes out! His costume was full of lights and he came out and danced with all of us! Towards the end of the event, he even had a fog gun and shot fog throughout the boat. It was truly incredible!Â
As we left the venue, we could not stop talking about how much fun we had on the boat. I think that this event was truly worth going to and made an average Tuesday night into something spectacular!
