Welcome back to Her Campus Lasell’s movie reviews with our writer and President, Emalee, where we are going to review the classics and the latest and greatest in film. So grab some popcorn and let’s see if this movie is worth seeing. Do not worry there will be *no spoilers* in this article.
Adrift was directed by Baltasar Kormakur and was released on June 1, 2018. It is a romance and adventure movie based on a true story about Tami Oldham Ashcraft. This movie stars the iconic Shailene Woodley and Sam Clafin. It is currently on Netflix and I would definitely recommend watching it!
Shailene Woodley did not disappoint as usual in this film. She plays a brave woman during a catastrophic event perfectly. Her and her fiance played by Clafin get caught in a huge hurricane traveling from Hawaii from California by boat. They were sailing a large boat back to California for friends of theirs and they did not think they were going to be caught in this storm. Woodley’s character is a free spirit who travels the world and pretty much just does what she wants. In Hawaii, she falls in love with Richard who is a sailor. She is pretty much up for any adventure, so she decides to travel with him. After being caught in this storm, Tami wakes up badly injured and Richard is nowhere to be found. She eventually finds him a few miles away holding on for his life on a mini boat. Most of their supplies, including the radio, and food got damaged in the storm, but Tami makes do with what she can to take care of Richard. She is determined to save herself and the only man she has ever loved. She puts back together with a sail with a broken pole and decides to turn back to Hawaii. The trip is going to take about forty days, will they be able to survive that long? You will have to watch to find out! There is love, drama, thrill, and a surprise ending in this true story!
