Thankful For Our Fellow HerCampus Chapters…Larissa Nunes from Holy Cross

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lasell chapter.

Larissa Nunes, a sophomore at College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, partners with our HerCampus Lasell Chapter for an interview today. Learn about this student and her experience with HerCampus at Holy Cross!

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: “I grew up in Framingham, Massachusetts. It’s like half an hour outside of Boston, so it’s like a city and was formally the biggest town in the US. There is a lot of people, and it is a very diverse environment. I’ve lived there all my life.”

Q: What is your major?

A: “I’m majoring in sociology and then I am pursuing either a double major in sociology and political science or a concentration in peace and conflict studies.”

Q: How would your friends describe you?

A: “Probably outgoing, kind, and creative.”

Q: What made you decide to go to school at Holy Cross?

A: “I think that for the most part, I wanted to stay close, but not too close to home since obviously, it is in Massachusetts. I wanted to be close to my family, but not so close that they can just come to campus anytime. I wanted to get some sort of independent aspect from being at college. Worcester is 30 minutes outside of my hometown which is pretty close, but also not close enough where it would be convenient for me to drop everything and go home, so there is that aspect of it. I did a lot of community service in high school and I really like their motto “men and women for others”. Here they place a big emphasis on involving yourself in the community whether it’s Worcester or just school, and making sure you are involved in clubs, sports, doing something that enriches your aspect as a character and contributes to your development personally. Since it is a liberal arts school, you can study many things before you decide what you actually want to specialize in. I knew I had kind of an idea of what I wanted to do. I’m very likely to change my mind so I knew I wanted the chance to take a lot of classes and be curious so I could really be sure of what I wanted to do when I decided on my major.”

Q: What do you do outside of class at school?

A: “HerCampus, I like to write. I’ve always been good at English so I do that just because I like writing and it is something that I enjoy doing. I like journaling and reading. I like to read self-improvement books and self-growth books. I haven’t had much time to do that later, but in the summer I would engage in that a lot. I also just joined Women in Business which is a networking club here. They connect you with people that have succeeded in the business, entrepreneurship, and finance fields. You can talk to a lot of women that have experienced maybe gender discrimination in the workplace and learn about how they succeeded in their field. I am also a greeter here in the admissions office, so I basically just talk to families and I volunteer whenever I can in the office when they come for an interview. I help the student and we talk about the school and any questions they have. When they go into the interview I will talk to their parents and any questions or concerns they have, just representing the school. I also like fashion, lifestyle, and beauty which is perfect for HerCampus because I can write a lot of my articles on that. I like surfing Pinterest boards and trying a new coffee, and new coffee places.”

Q: What drew you to joining HerCampus?

A: “English has always been my best subject, I knew I liked writing. I never really pursued doing anything in high school because we didn’t have any clubs or blogs like that where you could write for. Now that I have HerCampus, it is easier for me to do that. I honestly liked both fashion, lifestyle, and writing so when I heard about HerCampus and saw it on my Instagram explore page, that’s when I learned that I could write about anything when it comes to HerCampus. I officially joined this year, and it has been great to combine both of those things and I get to write about it now.”

Q: What was your favorite article you wrote for HerCampus?

A: “I think it would have to be, it’s so random, but the one about Ugg boots that I wrote. It was just fun to talk about because Ugg boots are this throwback thing, and I started noticing that they were coming back into trends and stuff. It was just fun to write about because I know a lot of people clown Ugg boots. It was my own personal opinion and it felt so natural to write it because it is something so random, but felt so relevant to me.”

Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?

A: “I can go multiple routes because I have no idea what I want to do right now, but I think maybe obviously like at a college either something postgraduate like law school or business school or at a job similar to that. I want to be creative, but still working in something that is rewarding, maybe a big business in a big city like New York City or a city like Chicago, DC. Something that embodies what I like and what my major is right now.”
