October has arrived so you know what that means…Halloween movies! From scary to heart warming, I’ve put together the ultimate Halloween watch list to put you in the Halloween spirit.

  1. Scream (1996)

What’s your favorite scary movie? For me, it has to be Scream. Following a young girl and her friends as they are attacked by a masked killer, the movie combines fear and mystery that will leave you on the edge of your seat, and covering your eyes at the same time. This classic is a meta critique on horror movie tropes, so if you love this genre, then this is a must watch for you!

   2. Scream 4 (2011)

Usually I’m not a fan of sequel films. However, in 2011 Scream 4 was released, and I have to say it’s one of my favorite sequels ever. Combining everything you love about the first movie with a fresh twist, the plot follows the main characters of the original movie as they face a new masked killer. Scream 2 and Scream 3 are the worst in the series, but thankfully you can skip these two and still understand Scream 4, and get exited because Scream 5 is coming in 2021!

   3. Us (2019)

The most recent addition on this list, Us follows a family as they are attacked by clones of themselves. This movie is completely original and unpredictable, making it a great late night watch.

  4. Beetlejuice (1988)

There are many haunted house movies to pick from during the spooky season, but Beetlejuice tops them all. When a couple begin to haunt their own home, they are tormented by a ghost named Beetlejuice. Combining the perfect mix of funny and creepy, with backdrops that resemble a haunted house attraction, Beetlejuice creates the perfect Halloween atmosphere.

  5. The Conjuring (2013)

While Beetlejuice takes the humorous approach to the haunted house, The Conjuring creates a scary paranormal thriller through the story of a family who move into a house with a violent paranormal history.  This is the perfect movie to watch late at night when you’re in the mood for a good scare!

   6. E.T (1982)

It’s nice to take a break from the scary and relax with a feel good film, and nothing feels better than watching a little E.T get dressed up for Halloween. This classic film follows the friendship of a young boy and an alien he found stranded on Earth. E.T is the perfect movie to curl up or carve pumpkins to!

   7. The Thing (1982)

If you’re into cool practical effects, or just generally weird things… this is the movie for you! Following a research group in Antarctica who find themselves in a fight for their lives after discovering a “Thing”, the movie keeps you curious and creeped out all at the same time.

   8. Coraline (2009)

Coraline is a stop motion masterpiece about a young girl’s dangerous adventures into an alternate world. Each frame is a feast for the eyes, and although it might seem like a movie for kids, its dark themes make it a mysterious thriller. Ever since I was little this has been on my list and still holds up, add it to yours and I’m sure you’ll feel the same way!

   9. Edward ScissorHands (1990)

Inspired by Frankenstein, this film follows a young man named Edward who had been brought to life by a scientist. With a combination of Halloween themes, and romance this movie is perfect if you have a special someone to cuddle up with this fall.

   10. Halloween (1978)

This horror classic is expected on almost every Halloween movie list, and it has earned its place. The whole film takes place on Halloween night as a killer returns to his home town. Halloween created the horror tropes that have been copied in scary movies until this day– it’s a true Halloween masterpiece you can’t miss.
