If you weren’t able to make it to the “Happy” movie that screened in the Warch Cinema last week, then you missed some sound advice on how we can all live more healthy and happy lives. The documentary film shows people from across the world living their lives in very different but equally as happy ways. In Denmark, communal living is a very popular thing, and it has been proven to make the residents happier people. The sense of community and of dividing the work between neighbors has made their lives better. However, the happiness that people find around the world is not connected to material wealth the way we might think. According to the film, a person’s income and job status only contributes to 10 % of their overall happiness. Also, a portion of a person’s happiness has to do with genetics and other factors. This leaves 40% left to make a difference in the person’s level of happiness. The year is still new, so if you are looking for a happier you consider writing a gratitude journal where you write down five things you are grateful for each week or making sure to get physical activity in fun and interesting ways. Thanks to the Wellness Committee for bringing such an awesome movie to Lawrence!
