Campus Celeb: Delaney Lawrence 15′

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

So, what motivated you to want to become the president of both LCTV and Communications Club? What are your hopes for these two clubs?

I’m a communications major with a duel concentration in TV/Radio and Film so both of these clubs really helped me when I was an underclassman. LCTV was and still is a small family of kids who really love what they’re doing and are interested in improving their skills. As soon as I joined I knew that I wanted to take on the role as president because I knew that I could help people find their passion whether it be in TV or not. For Communications Club it was really all about helping students understand how much the communications program has to offer and how they can be involved in more than one concentration.

Now that you’re a senior is it more difficult juggling all the work you have to do this semester?

Am I allowed to say sort of? Ha-ha… I have always been a really busy person and I love being involved so I’ve been enjoying myself. I think it’s hard to find the balance between being a workaholic and having a social life. However, my friends are very understanding, they always know when it’s time to step in and make me take a break from work. I also work in the edit lab so it forces me to get work done when I’m there. For our Senior year we have a bucket list and we’re trying to complete things that revolve around individual goals as well as Le Moyne Traditions, so that really helps me look forward to different things through out the year.

What’s it like being the director of Business Affairs on top of everything else?

It still doesn’t feel real to me. I remember that a year ago my professors made the announcement to me and I honestly couldn’t believe it, I still don’t believe it. It was and still is such an honor to be chosen for a role of such importance. It’s been a lot to juggle but my crew has made it so wonderful for me. It has also been a wonderful opportunity to work with my roommate Victoria Miguel as head of sound. She helps me out a lot because when I’m stressed she lets me vent in the middle of the night and of course she does a great job on set.

Is this film more challenging than the Ecuador film?

Both of them are challenging in their own way. Ecuador was all about going with the flow, we would plan the night before and basically pray that the shots we wanted would work out. We had no idea what we were tackling because you never know how someone will answer a question. Sometimes someone answers a question exactly like you wanted and you can relax a little bit and sometimes someone will be much more insightful and give you so much more, which is absolutely amazing. Then there are the times when people respond completely opposite of what you thought and you have to decide at that moment what you’re going to do or if you’re going to change the entire film right then and there. But with Business Affairs you know what people are going to say and how they are going to act because it’s right there in the script. That’s what makes it very different for me. I have been reading and rereading this script since December planning and looking over how the actors are going to say certain things or how I want the shot to look in the settings we had chosen months in advance. Everything has to be pictured and planned way in advance so that I can have my crew understand what I’m thinking or how I want it to look.

What do you want to be known for after leaving Le Moyne?

It would be such an honor to be known for the work that I have produced. There are a few graduates who we still know about even though they graduated before we got to school and I think that is so cool. To be able to look at someone’s work 4 years later and still be able to say wow I want my stuff to look like that is so impressive and even if one of my films or projects lasted that long I would be very happy. Also if the name Crazy Communications Girl could stick I would love that. So, what motivated you to want to become the president of both LCTV and Communications Club?
