Lady GaGa – ARTPOP (album)
Review:
ARTPOP, by the ever exciting, illustrious, pop Queen Lady GaGa is offically available for iTunes
download and on shelves of stores everywhere. On November 10th, Lady GaGa celebrated the
album release with friends and fans at a discreet location in NYC. A pattern I’m noticing with
GaGa’s albums is that they aren’t just about the music; she tries to add some sort of theme or
story to them. Her first album having this theme of fame and a privileged lifestyle. The second,
(and also my favorite) The Fame Monster, spawned creative and story-filled music videos. For
ARTPOP, GaGa has used seashells, space, futuristic images to create the setting.
Each song is different, but overall they an electronic foundation. The little monster inside you
will be dying to crawl out when you hear tracks like “Gypsy”, (anthemic and similar to “Edge
of Glory”), “Sexxx Dreams” (an electronic fantasy), “Venus” and “G.U.Y.”, featured in
this post. “G.U.Y. (Girl Under You)”, is reminiscent of “Love Game” a.k.a. old GaGa, using hard
beats and synth. The chorus, however, is light and airy, giving the song a good balance. The
title track “Artpop” is where GaGa won’t have as many fans. Unless the listener is a die hard,
like myself, they won’t really understand or enjoy the song. GaGa tweets: “ARTPOP will reveal
the miscommunications in our lives. We will no longer be able to side-step the consequences of
what we choose to say.”
Not exactly sure what that means. But I’ll be listening to ARTPOP in its entirety, trying to find
out.
