Hometown: Bolton Landing, NY

Major/Minor: I am a Peace and Global Studies major, and I am minoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations. I love to help the global community, and I also love communicating with people as well as helping them.

How did you get involved with RHA: Well, I started it last year, and I enjoyed how they worked with the campus, and how they had a voice in the campus community. I knew I wanted to help Le Moyne better itself, and figured RHA (Resident Hall Association) was the best place to do it!

What is the importance of RHA:It helps unite the residential halls here on campus and to reach out to people in need as well as local and national charities.

What are some events that RHA has held and will hold that you are excited about: Well, I loved the Ice Skating Extravaganza that we held just recently, where students went ice skating in Clinton Square and then got to eat at Dinosaur BBQ with live music entertainment. Also, we are having the Sophisticated Sweetheart Dance at the Landmark Theatre. I am so excited! All proceeds go to the American Heart Association, so it’s a great cause! We also do a bunch of activities and events for Alcohol Awareness Week, and one of our biggest events is coming up  soon—- Relay For Life!

What are some things that you hope RHA will achieve over the rest of the semester: I hope that we really crack down with unity on campus and increasing our community work around the Syracuse region.

Besides being RHA President, what else are you involved with on campus: There’s so many things! I’m the Vice President of History Academy, Secretary of Anthropology Club, and I volunteer with the Alumni Office. I also am a Choir member, I work with Campus Ministry, and am a member of the Orientation Committee.  I’m also going to be an RA next year!

What do you do to relax from your crazy schedule: I like to hang out with friends and watch movies. I also love spending time with my family. My friends and family are always there to help me take a breather after a long day.

What do you hope to do after Le Moyne: I want to help out with a non-profit organization. I would also like to work with the Catholic Church to help people better their lives as well as getting a job in Public Relations in some big, well known city!

What advice would you tell new students coming into Le Moyne about getting involved on campus: Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! Do things that you wouldn’t normally see yourself doing.

Do you have a quote or motto that you live by: Yes! I have two actually! “Treat others the way you like to be treated.”  “Live life to the fullest, laugh as much as possible, and love endlessly.”

Junior Communications Major with a concentration in Journalism. Minors in Creative Writing, Art, English, and Business.
Omairys, a born and raised New York City gal of the Dominican descent, is a motivated Communications/Advertising major, with a minor in English. She does not know what she will do with her Communications degree after graduation but is ambitious enough to hope it will be something promising, as this field has been her passion for as long as she could remember. She is actively involved on campus, as she is President of El Progreso, a multicultural organization that strives to raise awareness of the Latino community. She loves to travel: she has traveled to Kenya to work at The Nyumbani Program and will be interning at our nation's capital her senior year! She is hard working, and excited to bring change to her campus---Le Moyne.
