Music Mondays: Timesflies

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Le Moyne chapter.

Hello lovelies! Val back again for Music Monday and today the artists I chose is

the duo Timeflies. Timeflies is a duo made up of lead vocalist and freestyler Cal

Shapiro and musical producer Rob “Rez” Resnick. Cal and Rob go way back and

went to college together at Tufts University in Boston, where they were part of a

funk band called The Ride. Soon after that the bestfriends left the band and formed

a duo..Timeflies.

Timeflies really created their fan base through their Youtube page where they

started “Timeflies Tuesday” which is a series in where they release their own

remixes and freestyle over beats of popular songs. Their music was having girls

swooning over them and they soon had over 55million YouTube views and they

really made a name for themselves. Soon after their Youtube success, the dynamic

duo released an EP that became the #1 album on iTunes beating out Rihanna and

even Taylor Swift! And get this; they beat these two superstars without even being

signed to a label yet! (Definitely a HUGE accomplishment!)

Well fast-forward to today, two years later..they signed to Island Def Jam and the

two heartthrobs are currently killing it on tour and they just recently released their

new ep, “Warning Signs”.

Cal not only is he gorgeous and charming but he can also freestyle on command.

At shows, Cal challenges the crowd to write down a list of some words for

him to use in freestyle. I personally got to experience one of these free styles

at their show at Six Flags Great Adventures this summer and I was fan-girling

and I instantly fell in love. Cal’s freestyles are out of control and will impress

you ladies for sure. I was also impressed with Rez and his samples because he

includes a little bit of everything from oldies to new songs. Together Cal and Rez

just make pure magic to the ears.

As for their genre, the duo told thisbonustrack.com that “Genre is always difficult

for us because we try not to limit ourselves to one sound and bring in aspects of

all the different music we like… Electro Hip Pop Dub Something.” To make that

more clear for you ladies their songs range from sexy slow jams that will have you

falling over to the perfect party songs to jam out to before going out. I promise

you one listen to one of their song and you will be hooked, their suave bluesy-soul

songs will have you swooning over them. Watch out ladies these two will melt

your hearts!
