1. Don’t Limit Yourself to One Group of FriendsÂ
Chances are the people you meet during orientation aren’t going to stay your friends for the remainder of the year. Always be open to meeting new people; you’ll find your best friends this way!
2. Try Not to Participate in too Many Drunken Hookups
On such a small campus, what seems like a good idea on Saturday night will get real awkward, real fast on Sunday morning. Try to avoid having to utilize the “LMC lookaway”.
3. Don’t Be Afraid to Cut Loose and Have Fun
College can seem like a pretty serious place, and some people will tend to focus on their studies instead of going out with friends. You need to balance fun with school! They’re equally important to your wellbeing. On the flip side, don’t completely neglect the books for going out. If you have things you need to do, get them done.
4. Don’t Be Afraid of the Jesuits
They can seem intimidating at first, especially if you don’t know anything about them. However, once you take a class with them, you’ll see that they’re some of the nicest people on campus and always willing to help you out!
5. Try New Things
There are so many fun things you can try on campus. College is the time to explore! Join a club or group (such as Her Campus Le Moyne…wink wink), or try a new food you’ve never had at Magellans in the dining hall! You many end up discovering a new hobby or favorite meal.
6. Don’t Spend All Your Money On Cabs
Seriously, those add up. Try to find a designated driver for the night instead, because the cab drivers will overcharge you. I learned my lesson; try to avoid making the same mistake!
7. If You Miss Breakfast, Try Kafe Nuvo
Theresa is one of the best Sodexo workers we have here, and Kafe Nuvo is so underrated! Their smoothies are even better than the ones at the Den (real fruit), and their bagel sandwiches are to die for.
8. Don’t Skip School-Sponspored Events Because They Seem “Lame”
LSPB works hard finding events for us. I highly recommend taking advantage of the incredibly cheap trips to NYC and Boston that we have occasionally. The magician, hypnotist, and drag shows are also popular with students and SO much fun!
9. A Selfie With Eric Dolphy is Obligatory
Even if you don’t get it freshman year, make sure to snap a shot with him before you graduate! He’s an institution on this campus, and you’ll treasure the picture when you graduate.
10. Participate on Dolphy Day
This may be a no brainer, but your first Dolphy Day is one of the best memories you’ll make freshman year. Don’t make excuses for missing it! Be safe but have fun!
11. Don’t Act Like You’re Better Than Everyone
This is the number one way to make upperclassmen hate you. You’re at the bottom of the food chain…you’ll have your time to shine, but now is not it. Suffer through it like we did.
12. Above All, DO NOT WEAR YOUR LANYARD AROUND YOUR NECK
Hopefully you’ve all learned this by now, but it’s a surefire way to look like a clueless freshman. Carry it in your hand or on your backpack instead, literally ANYWHERE but your neck.
