It’s been a busy week in the celebrity world, and luckily for us we’re kept up to date on the latest activities of our favourite celebs thanks to the likes of Twitter and Instagram. The highlight this week was of course the Superbowl XLIX, where the rich and famous gathered together to join in the celebrations, and naturally, make us all very jealous with their endless social media updates.
The talking point on Twitter was Katy Perry, who stole the show with her VERY colourful halftime performance. With duets with both Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz, four different designer outfits, and a 12-foot lion, it’s no surprise her performance was a hot topic of conversation among celebs.
Katy received praise from a number of famous admirers, including Tyra Banks, Britney Spears and Anna Kendrick (pictured). Whilst supermodel Tyra Banks and pop star Britney Spears took to Twitter to commend Katy’s impressive performance, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick expressed admiration for Perry’s very famous and rather large assets!
More surprisingly, ex-husband and British comedian Russell Brand also tweeted his support. Although they have reportedly not been in contact since the breakdown of their 14-month long marriage, Brand wished his ex luck, prior to the biggest performance of her career.
According to the Daily Mirror, Katy was annoyed by the tweet, with one source claiming: “She couldn’t believe he’d say that after everything he put her through. This was the man who, quite literally, destroyed her heart”. We’re not surprised that Katy was disgruntled by Russell’s poor attempt at public reconciliation, considering he dumped her by text back in 2011!
Admirably, Katy did not rise to the tweet, and instead showed the world her commendable modesty and down to earth attitude. Despite her performance being watched by 118.5 million people across the world, Katy showed us that she does not let her fame go to her head. She tweeted to her 64.7 million followers: “…I gotta keep reminding myself I put my pants on one leg at a time… But, yes I am incredibly proud!”
Another talking point amongst social media was Kim Kardashian’s Superbowl ad for T-Mobile – arguably THE most talked about yet. The advert sees Kim doing what she does best –taking sultry selfies. Shooting moody looks to the camera, Kim contemplates that “Each month millions of gigs of unused data are taken back by wireless companies. Tragic”. Jokingly, Kim proceeds to show audiences what this loss of data could be used for, i.e., to take a lot of ridiculous and unnecessary selfies.
Naturally, to the annoyance of many, Kim took to Instagram to share her excitement for the upcoming ad. Captioning her post, “Who just saw my TMobile commercial!!!! So exciting!!!…”, Kim was clearly proud of her 30 second ad.
It did not, however, receive the same reaction among Twitter users, with the circulation of the hashtag “#stopkim”. One user even went as far to say, “I will never be a customer of T-Mobile thanks to that advert #stopkim”.
Contrary to the criticism, we like that Kim K has finally shown her funny side, and doesn’t mind making a mockery of her shameless seflies! And let’s face it, no one does it better than Kim!
