Enter 2012: Enter Shikari – ‘A Flash Flood of Colour’ Album Launch Show

On Monday 16th January Enter Shikari‘s new album ‘A Flash Flood of Colour’ burst into our stores and onto our shelves. By Tuesday 17th the album was already number 1 on the mid-week charts. Then on Wednesday 18th we were treated to their secret album launch show at none other than The Cockpit, Leeds.

So far it’s been a pretty good start to the week for those St Albans boys.

Enter Shikari never do anything by halves. Their third full album ‘A Flash Flood of Colour’ is a diverse collection of dubstep, drum ‘n’ bass meets hardcore and even some acoustic bits thrown in for good measure. Don’t even think about trying to pigeonhole them to a specific genre, you’d be wasting your time.

There’s not one weak song on ‘A Flash Flood of Colour’, each one introduces something new. From the unbelievably heavy drops in ‘Sssnakepit’ (that song alone should come with a warning – your speakers will suffer) to the hectic craziness that is ‘Gandhi, Mate Gandhi’ to the beautiful, moving and concluding track ‘Constellations’.

Lead singer Rou’s politically fuelled lyrics are amazing, as per usual. He’s brutally honest addressing topics such as climate change, the failing economy and the ongoing wars, but still manages to not let things get too deep. Although, if that does happen his bandmates know exactly how to bring him back: “Woah mate, calm down! Gandhi mate, just remember Gandhi.”

Unsurprisingly, The Cockpit was packed, full of fans who had gained their exclusive entry from buying ‘A Flash Flood of Colour’ in local record stores. It was quite a privilege being amongst the first to hear Enter Shikari‘s brand new tracks and they put on one hectic live show. The guys even  chucked in a few old classics: ‘Sorry You’re Not a Winner’ and ‘Mothership’ from their debut ‘Take To The Skies’, and ‘Juggernauts’ from their last album ‘Common Dreads’. Needless to say the crowd went mental. 

Not even three weeks into 2012 and this album has already firmly planted itself in the top 10 lists of the whole year. It’ll be there, I guarantee it.

Hannah first joined Her Campus as part of the Illinois branch as a writer during her study abroad year at UofI. While in the US, Hannah joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and subsequently began to write a weekly column for the Greek newspaper, The Odyssey. Now back home in the UK, Hannah has founded the first ever UK HC branch for her own university, The University of Leeds. She is in her final year of a Politics degree and is excited for the year ahead and what great things Her Campus Leeds will achieve. Outside of her studies, Hannah enjoys travel, fashion and being an alumni of The University of Leeds Celtics Cheerleading squad where she ran as PR Secretary for the committee during her 2nd year.
