The East Village Bar: A Review
On a rainy Wednesday night my flat mates and I decided to trek out of our accommodation for a ‘sophisticated’ girl’s night out. After googling cocktail bars in our area, we ran alongside Hyde Park getting soaked in the rain until we came across the tucked away East Village bar in Brudenell Grove. It was rammed pack full of students taking part in the bar quiz with indie music playing in the background giving the place a laidback, social vibe.
We ordered a Lychee Martini, Frozen Watermelon Margarita and Passion Fruit Collins from the long list of fruity and delicious sounding cocktails, all priced around £6.50-£7. They tasted so good I had to have another – The Maldives breeze. This was a mango, passion fruit, lemon and raspberry iced smoothie blended with orange liqueur and citrus vodka, and so far is my favourite out of the drinks I’ve tried. Despite have only two cocktails to myself and sipping my friend’s drinks, it was fair to admit that by this point I was tipsy!
Once the pub quiz had ended a mass of students flocked out of the bar leaving us space to sit on the comfy sofas and chairs, surrounded by retro posters, candles and fairy lights. Although it was now 11pm and the majority of people had left, the bar still was not empty and continued to uphold a lively and chilled atmosphere.
We ventured downstairs to find more students sat around playing table football, whilst a very lovely and chatty man who’s name I unfortunately didn’t catch offered us pizza and chips. My flat mate highly recommended the giant slice of pizza he bought, whilst I ate mozzarella and herb covered chips which were to die for.
It’s safe to say my entire flat are wanting to visit again, and next time join in the quiz which offers amazing looking prizes even if you don’t win (I saw the team who came second place enjoy a giant sharing slushy cocktail!). This place has amazing cocktails, atmosphere, music and food alongside friendly staff – what more is there to ask for?!
