Her Campus Reviews: Pyramid Cafe

Her Campus Reviews: Pyramid Café

Pyramid opened last year in the union. Pyramid Café by day, the ‘rnb room’ (Mine) at fruity by night… We were expecting sticky floors and dingy lighting but were pleasantly surprised by how well it scrubbed up – not a VK in sight.

Compared to most cafes in uni it wasn’t absolutely heaving. We were able to find a table easily but the atmosphere was still relaxed, probably helped along by it’s banging playlist.

It has the chilled out vibes of a bar, but more intimate than the likes of Old Bar, and much easier to find a seat than in Common Ground. There aren’t any arm chairs so I wouldn’t recommend snuggling down to get some reading done but it’s definitely the type of place you could settle down with at a table with a coffee and get some work done.

As we were there to review the food, we got straight down to it. We chose to order a soup and sandwich as they do a lunchtime deal. And because this obviously wasn’t enough food, we ordered a portion of ultimate potatoes- yum.

Our order arrived fairly quickly considering it was peak lunchtime. Our soup and sandwich arrived first and the soup did not disappoint. It arrived in a cute pot and we took the lid off to reveal a thick hearty broth- I’m going to go as far as saying the broth was the best part of our lunch! It came with a warm baguette, perfect for dipping.

Next we tucked in to our toasted goats cheese and roasted veg sandwich, it was tasty, while it could’ve done with a little more goats cheese, it was still yummy and stuffed full of veg.

Last but not least, our ultimate potatoes arrived. They were cheesy to say the least! The small chunks of potato were covered in a cool salsa and absolutely doused in cheese.

Overall, our lunch was very filling and only cost us £9.05, so split between the two of us it was about the price of a bakery 164 and a coffee. Not too bad.

If you’re looking for a nice lunch on campus then definitely head own to Pyramid, it’s well priced and relaxed- you’ll be able to find a seat which makes a change!

Another cool thing about Pyramid is that there’s a new theatre just through some double doors in the café. It’s hosting a cinema club throughout the rest of the semester and each society is hosting their own night.

Her Campus will be showing The Devil Wears Prada on the 6th November. Tickets are £4 but will include free snacks and drinks. https://www.facebook.com/events/1857787534532220/
