LRFS Cheese and Wine Night
We were invited down to LRFS’ most recent fundraiser on Monday evening – a Cheese and Wine Night at Hyde Park Book Club. The intimate location made for an excellent venue.
Upon entry, we were greeted by a brilliant, buzzing atmosphere, with a great turn out and groups of people chatting away and getting to know each other, a huge array of cheeses on the side, and wine being sold at the front, with all proceeds going straight to this year’s two fantastic charities – Leeds Mind and Dementia UK. All this was perfectly complimented with the cool tunes provided throughout the evening by local record label Youth Club Sounds.
We took our complimentary glass of wine handed to attendees on arrival, filled our plates with the delicious wide variety of cheeses on offer (we were particular fans of the Yorkshire Wensleydale with cranberries!) and got chatting to some of the people involved with the show…
We caught up with Aisha Adams, this year’s VIP manager and Ellie Chambers, one of this year’s 100 models.

Both Aisha and Ellie had a great energy and excitement when talking to us about their participation in this year’s show, with this being the first year either of them have been involved with the show.
They explained how involvement with the show is incredibly time consuming, but unquestionably worth it, for the huge amount of fun being a part of it is.
What made you want to get involved this year?
Aisha: I went to see the show last year, and my friend was involved. I loved the show and it was great to watch, but then I started thinking imagine being involved! The show is so fun, there’s so many socials and chance to get to know lots of different people.
Ellie: I’m in my 4th year now, so this is really my last chance to get involved. I was really inspired by this year’s show’s emphasis on diversity. I’m only 5’2 and I find I’m always cut off from fashion stuff because of my height, which is really annoying because modelling is something I really enjoy. That’s why I’m so happy this year’s show is so inclusive, of all heights, sizes, genders and ethnicities.
This year’s theme will be announced on the 15th January… Since it’s the show’s 10th Anniversary we’re sure it’s going to be a special one… As VIP manager, Aisha can you give us any hints as to what the theme might be?
Aisha: Oh I reaaaallly can’t! But what I can say is that the way the theme is going to be portrayed is very unexpected. It’s going to be very sharp and very different, with a strong and impressive delivery.
Exciting stuff! Ellie, as an impartial member of the team who doesn’t know the theme, do you have any ideas or guesses?
No! I’m clueless, but very excited to find it out…
The anticipation and excitement for this year’s theme really is building amongst us all here at Her Campus, and across the whole University.
Watch this space for more info regarding upcoming Fundraiser events and the big reveal of the theme…
The Cheese and Wine Night was a fantastic success, raising lots of money for the brilliant chosen charities. Thanks so much to LRFS for having us down, we can’t wait for the next event!
