How to make your perfect mojito!

Exams and deadlines are almost over and nothing marks the begining of the British summer like a BBQ. The first ray of sunshine and we’re throwing off our jumpers and lighting some coals.

So aside from brunt sausages and lumpy potato salad, drinks are the most important thing at a BBQ. Unfortunately, being on a student budget we’re usually limited to some frosty jacks or a bottle of blossom hill! If you fancy adding a bit of sassy glam to your evening, then I’ve got the perfect recipie to make simple cocktails on a budget.

First of all, you’re going to need;

  • White rum
  • Brown sugar
  • Limes
  • Mint leaves
  • Soda water
  • Ice

You can stock up on all of these supplies for under £20, so if you’re splitting it between 3 of you, it’s around the same price as a bottle of wine.

Step by step:

1. Put around two teaspoons of brown sugar, a large slice of lime and a handful of mint leaves in the bottom of a glass. Then crush them all together.

2. Fill the glass with ice.

3. Pour in around 3 measures of rum.

4. Top the glass up with soda water and voila!

If you want, you can mix things up a bit and add different flavours. Crush up some rasberries, strawberries or passion fruit to make things a bit more exotic.
