And the feeling was most definitely right (yes, this article features some pretty cheesy puns). In a night that played host to more independent women than a Destiny’s Child video (I did warn you), Bar 7 opened its doors and welcomed “Her Campus Ladies Night”, all in aid of the breast cancer awareness charity CoppaFeel! Her Campus aimed to give its guests a night full of pampering, cocktails and most importantly fun, all in the name of a good cause and the night did not disappoint. The drinks were flowing –make mine a Pineapple Mojito – the music defined 90s girl power and the queues for the make up artists and nail technicians spoke for themselves. Everybody involved in Ladies Night could only describe it as a fun and successful event, with the £357 raised for CoppaFeel! leaving no room for debate on the matter.
The night was all in aid of CoppaFeel!- a breast cancer awareness charity “on a mission to stamp out late detection and misdiagnosis of breast cancer”. The charity aims to educate young women to understand the symptoms of breast cancer and to regularly “CoppaFeel!”. With almost 48,000 women a year being diagnosed with breast cancer in the United Kingdom, according to stats by the NHS, it’s clear to see why this charity is so worthwhile. The charity was set up by twin sisters Kris and Maren after Kris was tragically diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 23. Ever since, Kris has made it her mission to encourage the younger generation to be aware of and educated about the symptoms of breast cancer, a disease which we often believe would not happen to us. By Kris sharing her inspiring story and positive outlook on life to raise awareness amongst young women, the lives of many others can be saved.
Kimberley Brook, a Yorkshire based make-up artist was the lady to paint our faces on the night, with my session leaving me hoping for my personal make-up artist. Ahh, a girl can dream. While I’ve always been acquainted with the latest Mac lipsticks and I love trying out new looks as much as the next girl, my make-up method has always been, well, I don’t really have one. Unless “slap it on your face until it looks ok” counts as a make-up technique. Hmm…questionable. So I gave Kimberley full control of my face, asking for a natural day time look which would bring out my eyes (something I’ve always struggled with).
I had no reason to worry, looking in the mirror I realised I needed Kimberley in my life permanently or at least her make up expertise. I was not disappointed with the results, with Kimberley explaining what she had done and why, allowing me to recreate the looks myself at home.
So, if you need professional make-up for a special occasion such as society’s ball or a birthday treat or you simply want to get glammed up for the hell of it, Kimberley is your girl. (http://www.kimberleybrook.co.uk/)
The night provided us with the chance to get glammed up, have a cheeky tipple and have fun with friends; reminding us why being a young woman is so great. And by raising money for CoppaFeel! we made it our mission to make sure that other young women will be reminded of this too, by living the life that a 20 something should be living, not fighting a battle with breast cancer. By letting us think about and discuss breast cancer so openly amongst others, let’s hope that we will continue to spread awareness, all with CoppaFeel’s inspiring and positive outlook. The charity say that they organise events that are “fun and inspiring,” and with a night full of laughter, make up and to hell with it, a bit of the Spice Girls, I hope that Her Campus pulled it off. I certainly think so.
