In light of University of Leeds’ pledge to a plastic-free campus by 2023, Leeds Fashion Society have decided to demonstrate their support of sustainability by launching their very own LFS Clothes Swap event. As much as they love fashion, it has been recognised as the second-most polluter of clean water. Did you know: that 20% of industrial water pollution comes from treating and dyeing textiles, that 90% of cotton is genetically modified, that it takes 700 gallons of water to produce enough cotton for one t-shirt, and that the production of fiber is responsible for 18% of pesticide and 25% of insecticide used worldwide?
If you are interested in participating in sustainability projects, then go to the Leeds Fashion Society clothes swap. Tickets will only be available to purchase at the drop-off. You will be able to drop off up to FIVE items of clothing*, which grants you a token that allows you to pick up the same number of clothes as you donated yourself. If any clothes are left over after the event, they will be donated to sustainability-oriented organisations ?
The Clothes Swap will start on Wednesday 21st November at 11:30am in LUU Room 6 and end at 5:00pm. Non-members can join the event by paying £3, while members can enjoy a discount and pay £2 for entrance.
*All items including tops, bottoms, outerwear are welcome (excluding accessories, shoes, underwear garments). The items should be in reasonably good condition – freshly laundered and in good repair.
Additionally, refreshments will be provided at the event and members will be able to collect their Revolution cards, which gives them access to discounts on food and drinks in any Revolution around the UK.
