Student ‘tails: October (Halloween Special!)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

Student ‘tails: October

I’m a girl of substance. Alcoholic substance, that is. Which is why this is the beginning of my search to find easy(ish), mostly affordable and okay-tasting ways to spruce up pres with cocktails!

I know what you’re thinking: sounds AMAZING. Right? Let’s delve in to see what inspiration this month gave me.

October’s dark, early evenings coinciding with Halloween made me want a drink as shadowy as my face when my tutor asks me about a seminar reading I completely forgot. But when bright orange pumpkins piled up at the front of every shop, I knew I had to give the flavour a go. (Now, cause I’m lazy, I bought some pumpkin puree but you can make your own by peeling a pumpkin, baking it for 20 minutes and mashing it like your life depends on it). After some trial and error, my Orange-You-Glad-I-Spiced-Up-Your-Life-With-Pumpkin was born (the length of the name, of course, reflects how long it took me to come up with it).

You will need:

For the ginger-infused Vodka:

100ml Vodka

1 Tablespoon Chopped Ginger

For (1) Orange-You-Glad-I-Spiced-Up-Your-Life-With-Pumpkin:

2,5cl Ginger-Infused Vodka

15cl Orange Juice

3oz. Pumpkin Puree

Lime Juice of one Lime Wedge

Method:

For the ginger-infused vodka:

Place chopped ginger in with vodka and shake. Store in a dry cupboard for 2-3 days and shake occasionally. Once infused, strain vodka and chuck away the ginger.

For (1) Orange-You-Glad-I-Spiced-Up-Your-Life-With-Pumpkin:

Combine ingredients in an ice-filled glass from a cheap shop and stir till it looks presentable. Hope for the best. If you’re extra like me, add some of those chocolate eyeballs for effect.

And there you have it! Some concoction you can say is vaguely Halloween-y! Drink up and pat down your (h)eye-balls for enjoyment afterwards.

Why not give it a go?

…and let me know if you get it to taste even better.
