Just when you’ve finished recovering from Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day comes hurrying around the corner. However, unlike Valentine’s Day where you’re forced to buy cards, flowers and chocolates for your other half (or made to feel extremely depressed that you’re single), Mother’s Day is quite a nice excuse to show our Mums how much they mean to us. Your mother will always be your number one fan no matter what and without fail they give the best advice. There’s no one better to speak to when you’ve had a rubbish day, been dumped or got a bad grade etc. than speaking to your one and only Mum.
Mother and Daughter relationships can go up and down like a yo-yo; one minute you’re screaming at each other, the next you’re the best of friends. It’s certainly a relationship that develops and one that changes, sometimes dramatically, as you both get older.

Here are my top 10 celebrity Mother and Daughter Duos:
Â
Gwyneth Paltrow and Blythe Danner
Blythe Danner is one of the most recognisable mothers as she’s starred in numerous films such as the popular Meet the Fockers series. With an award winning mother, it’s no wonder that daughter Gwyneth would grow up to be an actress. The duo have only once starred together in the British film Slyvia. Now that Blythe is a grandmother and has sadly lost her husband Bruce Paltrow, the pair have an even closer relationship and are supporting one another.
Â
Beyoncé and Tina Knowles
It’s a well-known fact that BeyoncĂ© has always had her mum as the driving force behind her career. Tina is a fashion designer and made the clothes for Destiny’s Child when they first started. Tina was their manager and then went on to manage both BeyoncĂ© and also Kelly Rowland when they embarked on their solo careers. Furthermore, BeyoncĂ© and her mum have recently developed the fashion brand House of DerĂ©on into a successful clothing label. Together mothers and daughters can be a powerful team.
Â
Kate Hudson and Goldie Hawn
Goldie is an actress, film director, producer, sometimes singer and was known in the 60s as the “It” girl. Luckily for Kate she’s inherited her Mum’s gorgeous looks, along with her humour. Last year Kate’s biological Dad, Bill Hudson, released a “tell-all” book about Goldie’s affairs. Despite Bill being her real Dad, Kate views Goldie’s current partner Kurt Russell as more of a father figure and stuck up for her Mum against all the claims Bill made. Mums may not be perfect, but we all make mistakes and at least Kate is sticking by Goldie.
Â
Kelly and Sharon Osbourne
Kelly spent a good number of her teenage years on our TV screens, starring in her own family’s reality show ‘The Osbournes.’ As Kelly has grown up, she and Sharon have become closer and appear regularly together, for example as Grand Marshals for the LA Gay Pride Parade back in 2010 in addition to numerous TV appearances such as the upcoming CNN’s ‘Piers Morgan Tonight’. Following in her mother’s footsteps Kelly has been an actress, presenter, singer and also gone into fashion and writing. Two very strong women who are never afraid to speak their minds.
Â
Rumer Willis and Demi Moore
Another very attractive mother/daughter couple. Demi is a successful actress and also known for the controversial Vanity Fair cover, on which she appeared naked and pregnant. Rumer has followed in her parents’ footsteps as an actress and appeared with her mother in the film Now and Then and twice with her father in The Whole Nine Yards and Hostage. Mother and daughter have recently been in the press with regards to Demi’s hospitalisation after a drug overdose. Rumer has stuck by her Mum and has only recently spoken out about Demi’s recovery.
Â
Daisy and Pearl Lowe
This duo have firmly planted their roots in the fashion world with model Daisy and fashion designer Pearl. Their relationship began as a rocky start with Pearl’s drug taking as Daisy was growing up and it’s taken a while for them to develop a bond. Having a Mother who has literally ‘been there, done that’ is not always the best of role models but as they’ve got older they’re working together in fashion, teaming up for charity and appear closer than ever.
Â
Sienna and Jo Miller
Sienna is a model, actress and fashion designer, and daughter of Jo Miller who managed the Lee Strasberg drama school in London and was also a model. Sienna is best known for her troubled relationships, the most famous one being with Jude Law. Her relationship with her mother also suffered last year due to the phone-hacking by the News of the World. Sienna was one of the unfortunate victims and even resorted to accusing her mother of leaking stories.
Â
Lily Allen and Alison Owen
Alison Owen is a British film producer who produced Slyvia starring our first mother and daughter couple – Gwyneth and Blythe. Pop singer Lily Allen grew up with her mum in London but is more often than not referred to as “Keith Allen’s daughter.” They may not be that much alike (apart from the talent) and as Lily has said: “Mum and I have a very odd connection,” however, not all mother and daughter relationships are perfect and Lily and Alison are a clear example of a couple who have stuck together. Hopefully, their bond will only get better – especially with the new arrival of Lily’s daughter Ethel Mary.Â
Â
Lourdes and Madonna
The youngest daughter in our list at only 15, but Lourdes has a mother who is one of the most influential women in music history. Madonna’s eldest daughter is currently studying at LaGuardia High School of Music and Art and Performing Arts and looks set to follow in her mother’s huge footsteps. If not in performing then Lourdes is already set up in the fashion world with her clothing line: Material Girl. Being 15, she, like any other teenage daughter, finds her mum embarrassing. It just shows that mothers, no matter who they are, will always embarrass their children.
Â
The Gilmore Girls – Rory and Lorelai
Finally to conclude our top 10 famous mothers and daughters, I couldn’t not leave out our favourite TV duo. They may be a fictional mother and daughter but they’ve been entertaining us for years. Their close relationship and the fact that Lorelai had Rory at such a young age means they often get mistaken for sisters. The Gilmore Girls sadly became discontinued in 2007 after its seventh series, however thanks to E4 all seven of the series are playing on repeat. Rory and Lorelai just go to show that there’s nothing wrong with having your Mum as your best friend.
So this Mother’s Day, why not do something a little more special this year? Gift wise there’s the usual cards/flowers/chocolate/jewellery, but how about organising a day trip – spa, garden centre, shopping etc… Doing something you’ll both enjoy and spending time together will be a million times better than a last minute card.
