Top 5 Restaurants in Leeds for your Valentine’s Date Night

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Leeds chapter.

As a second-year student, I’ve tried a lot of restaurants in Leeds. Some have been great, whilst others have been mediocre or even downright bad. However, there’s a few that have really stood out and had me going back repeatedly. So, in no particular order, I’ve compiled a list of my top 5 favourites. If you’re looking to try somewhere new, or maybe to find the perfect date location for your Valentine’s (or Galentine’s), I would totally recommend giving these a go!

Home Chinese

If you’re a lover of Chinese food, this is one restaurant you have to try. I discovered this during my first week at Leeds, as a fresher, and since then I’ve recommended it to almost everyone I know. No one has come back disappointed and, if that isn’t enough, most people have even reported back that it has become their favourite Chinese restaurant! Located across from Laidlaw Library and five minutes from Parkinson Building, this is a great place to visit after a tiring day of lectures. A recent refurbishment has also increased the size of the seating area, an indicator of the restaurant’s popularity. It even does takeaway lunch boxes for those who can’t get enough.

But remember, they only take cash. Luckily, there is a cash withdrawal point only two minutes away.

Haute Dolci

This luxury dessert store is located in the heart of the city, within The Light. Anyone with a sweet tooth is guaranteed to love this. They make their very own chocolate in store, and the best part is, you can watch it happen. You can also watch your dessert being prepared while you wait, due to the angled mirrors on the ceilings. And if that isn’t enough, their interior is beautiful. I’m talking pink couches! With Valentine’s day coming up, this could be a perfect location to take your significant other, or even a group of friends if you’re looking to treat yourselves.

Zaap Thai

Leeds is home to the first ever Zaap Thai. Since its opening back in 2015, this restaurant has only thrived. To go with the authentic Thai street food served here, the interior has been designed to resemble a typical Bangkok market. I’ve tried a lot of Thai restaurants in Leeds, and this is one of my favourites. For a cosy night in a takeaway is perfect, but I would definitely recommend eating at the restaurant.

Indian Tiffin Room

Three words: authentic Indian food. This doesn’t just offer regular chicken curry (though I do recommend getting the Chicken Vishaka); there are so many authentic options from all over India. They even have delicious Indo-Chinese alternatives for those who aren’t too keen on Indian food. No other Indian restaurant in Leeds compares to Indian Tiffin Room, so this is one place you have to try. The interior is also beautiful, making this restaurant a perfect date setting.

Franco Manca

This chain restaurant opened in Leeds city centre only last year. Their fresh sourdough pizza is perfect for a hearty meal. The ability to customize toppings, alongside vegan options, means the restaurant caters for everyone. They even have a loyalty app where you can collect stamps to gain a free pizza! The restaurant has a lively yet comfortable atmosphere, so if you’re looking for a casual setting this is the place for you.

Leeds is filled with a range of delightful restaurants to match every foodie’s tastes. I know, you probably won’t want to wait until Valentine’s Day to try out these delicious meals! At least now you can plan ahead – it’s time for you to get making your reservations so you can spend time and, more importantly, share food with that special someone.
