This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lehigh chapter.

What inspired you to create Sinister Rouge?

This one is a complicated question and has three parts, Sinister Rouge Pin Up, Sinister Rouge Skincare/Cosmetics, & the blending of the two.  Let’s start with SR PinUp…

To me, the concept of Pin Up screams self confidence, self love, poise, and a sense of humor…something we can all use in everyday life…so we’ve decided to apply these things that we’ve learned through pin up into our website and blog.  So, when you ask why I started SR Pin Up, it started out as a way to make everyone feel great about themselves and promote my Sinister Rouge Skincare & Cosmetics (and other small business specializing in handmade items) through the fantastic photography of a friend, but it’s morphed into more than I could have imagined.  The focus coming away from promotion of any business, but focusing on the promotion of living well, being happy, and loving your body (no matter it’s shape or size) by taking care of it.  We’re still finishing up the shift in content, but it’s something I’m extremely excited about putting out there.

But if asking why I started 13th Moon or the Sinister Rouge Skincare and Cosmetics Lines, it’s because I am allergic to so many things that I really have to know the ingredients used in products as well as how they affect me.  I was determined to still use fragrance and lots of colors in my products, without having them be harsh on my skin or the scent overbearing.  As an asthmatic, I can assure you that the quality of the fragrances used makes all the difference.

My favorite part right now is blending the two by using the photos of our SR girls on the newest product line of Skincare & Cosmetics!

What is a Sinister Rouge girl like?

An SR Girl knows who she is and isn’t afraid to show it. Whether she does it by what she wears, how she carries herself, and how she treats other people. She doesn’t fit a cookie cutter mold and is fine with that.  Her being herself gives others the strength to be who they really are.  She certainly doesn’t play games, she’s a straight shooter.

We also all love animals.

What are the products made with, and more importantly, what are they made without?

You know, everyone’s skin is different, everyone has different issues, so I’ve gone away from saying that my products are safe for sensitive skin, although, of course they are, and decided to start being more clear in my responses to customers.  My promise to you is this; I can tell you all of the ingredients that have gone into my products so you can be properly informed of what products are safe for you personally and which are not.  As someone with many issues, I have been lied to many times so the salesperson just could make the sale instead of actually caring about my well being.  I refuse to do that.  I’d rather spend the time with you; make sure you’re good with each of the products you buy.  Example, there are many people with latex allergies or sensitivities, which means a lot of them have difficulty with shea butter, this doesn’t mean I don’t use shea butter in my products, or that everyone with a latex issue will even react to shea, only that I can be very clear as to which products they need to avoid for their particular issues.  I’ve been using the term “Allergy Friendly”.

I can say that I am very careful with the selection of my ingredients, but I do not believe in fear mongering to sell my products.  I may never use certain things, because of personal preference or issue with it myself, and of course I’ll go on in detail about things to those that want to know more, but I don’t feel any of this is black and white, there are some very gray areas that require more than a quick answer.

Where can a Lehigh gal buy your products?

Currently, you can find us at our online store at Shop13thMoon.com and on Thursdays until the end of October at Lehigh University Campus Square for the Bethlehem Farmers Market.  I am in the process of updating the website, so if you don’t see what you’re looking for, shoot me an email: Selena@Shop13thMoon.com or call (570) 249-4676 for more info.

Can you tell the readers more about your new Fall line?

The fall line of Whipped Parfaits for Shave or Body (Whipped Body Wash/Shaving Cream) will hit the Bethlehem Farmer’s Market on September 17! These have certainly been a customer favorite every time they’ve been offered – get them while supplies last!
