The following letter was written by a UMOJA resident regarding recent events:
Dear whomever attacked UMOJA,
Casually checking my emails this morning, I noticed something that caught my attention. Quickly, I scanned an email saying that last night, someone egged and graffitied Umoja with racial slurs. Sitting on my comfy bed and looking out my window, this was shocking, considering I live in Umoja. First of all, I’d like to say that I’m really disappointed in whoever decided to do this. I love Lehigh, and I really hate to see anyone doing things to harm its identity as a university of intelligent, compassionate students. Overall, I think that we are a very inclusive community that cares about its members. However, then there are people who recklessly, hatefully commit acts that completely destroy that image of our community.Prior to this incident, I could kind of relate to FBR’s claim that Lehigh needs to change, but now I fully agree. Whoever you are, you’ve attacked our home and brought Lehigh to a place that I doubt any of us want it to go.Some advice for whoever did this? Go back to the pre-civil rights era, because you’re not welcome in the 21st century.
Sincerely,
Kelsey
