If you’re anything like me, your mornings are probably the most hectic part of your day. You jump up out of bed, or in my case lay in bed until the last possible second checking all of my social media platforms, and then you begin the morning rush.

Everyone’s morning routines vary, for me, I practically do the same thing every morning. Get up, brush my teeth, put contacts in, fix up my hair, and then try and do my makeup while constantly battling my yawning. At this point in my college career, I think it’s safe to say that I’ve mastered waiting until the last possible second to do things, including doing my makeup.

I use the term “mastered” very loosely, there have been a number of times I have been late to things because I didn’t leave myself enough time to get ready. In my efforts to eliminate my lengthy morning routine, I have found some ways that will allow you to do your makeup in 5 minutes or less.

Now, don’t get me wrong, if you’re going for a heavy glam look, walking out of the house with a full face of makeup in 5 minutes may not be plausible. But, for those who are open to keeping things simple, quick and easy these tips will definitely help you get ready faster and be out the door quicker.

Lay everything out the night before

Brushes, shadows, liners, and highlights. Laying out your products the night before is a crucial step in this process. This allows you to eliminate all the time you would waste rummaging through your drawers searching for that one powder you want to use. This makes it easier for you to just sit down and start applying.

Don’t decide to try that new product the morning of:

Although trying out new products is a ton of fun, it may not be smart to start trying new things right before you’re supposed to be walking out the door. You run the risk of not liking how it looks and depending on what the product is, taking it off may ruin whatever products you already have on your face.

Keep it simple and natural

Personally, I do like to branch out and try different makeup looks, but if you are in a hurry it may benefit you to keep things simple in the morning. Instead of blending and contouring and defining, maybe just keep it simple with a neutral eye color, some mascara, and some powder.

Combine some steps in your normal routine

Try products that can serve multiple purposes. By finding a primer that also serves as a moisturizer, you’ve already just saved yourself one step in your morning beauty routine. Try looking for a mascara that has the power to prime your lashes and adds volume at the same time. Another step in your routine has been eliminated. You can also add a pretty pop of color on both your lips and cheeks with a multi-stick.

Use fewer products

This goes along the lines with my previous tip. By using fewer products you are eliminating time in your routine spent applying them. For example, if you are going for a smokey eye, try taking a pencil liner, lining the top and bottom of your lids and just blending them out. Now, your eyeliner is done and you have a rockin’ smokey eye.

Make sure you have the right tools

Having the right tools is an important step. If you have the right tools the application process will be quick and seamless and you won’t be forced to battle with the tools you are trying to use, which takes up more time.

So, next time you decide to hit the snooze button once, twice or even three times, think of these tips. It’s going to make life easier and make your morning routine mishaps go right out the window.
