If you have curly hair then you know the STRUGGLE IS REAL when it comes to taking care of it and trying to style it. We have all gone through the straightening hair/ultimate damage phase but for healthy, beautiful curly hair here is what you need to do. Shower Time    I cannot stress this enough but using a curly-hair specific shampoo and conditioner is crucial. Regular lines do not have the moisture or ingredients that our curly hair needs. I personally use DevaCurl and swear by it. It is available at Ricky’s NYC if you want to try it out but there are also multiple other options out there.
Also in the shower, you NEED to take the time to comb your hair from the roots down. Brushing it outside of the shower is basically certain death for your curls so the shower is the perfect time to de-tangle your hair. Huge clumps of hair in your comb is totally normal but make sure to be aware if you are losing more than your average amount.

Sleeping Time
Find what hairstyle works for you at night. I have thick curly hair so sleeping with it down is not an option. I pile my hair on top of my hair in a loose bun, right where a unicorn horn would be. Other options are braids, low buns, or sectioning your hair into pigtails. Whatever you choose, make sure it is not too tight as this can cause breakage while you sleep.

Even though you’re sleeping, your hair still needs some TLC. If you constantly are waking up with kinky, dry curls getting a silk pillowcase can be life-changing. The silk material helps your hair retain its moisture and decreases the breakage that can often happens with cotton pillowcases. Added bonus- silk pillowcases can also help keep your skin healthy!   Â
All The Time  Â
I went through a long phase of absolutely hating my curls and wanting to straighten, relax, anything to have the hair I thought was beautiful. We all go through periods like that but it is so important to embrace your curls and rock your natural hair as much as possible. If you ever need a curly hair boost, this Dove Campaign is so inspiring.
P.S. it makes me cry every time.
