So here begins my dose of the best that Liverpool’s bar and restaurant scene has to offer. I know a Nandos can be the best cure for a hangover and Pizza Express, of course, holds endless appeal (especially on Wednesdays) but sometimes you just want something that little bit different. I aim to seek out those hidden gems to find you Liverpool ladies some quality yet affordable restaurants and bars to visit with your friends or other halves.
My first pick is Lucha Libre, located on Wood Street just off Bold Street next to The FACT cinema. Self-entitled “authentic Mexican,” this charming bar and restaurant is Liverpool’s answer to true Mexican cuisine. The menu has something for everyone, and for Spice lovers there is an endless array of hot sauces to sample.
The prices are extremely reasonable with a taco, burrito or quesadilla costing between £4 and £6 meaning you can experience authentic Mexican street food even when you’re waiting for your next loan day (we all do it.) They also offer a weekly deal and specials board so there is always something new to sample! The drinks available are authentic with San Miguel being the house beer, served with a wedge of lime. Myself and my housemates visited recently and we ordered a jug of sangria to share which was extremely reasonable and went a long way (a definite tick for students!)
Overall, this restaurant is perfect for groups of friends owing to its relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. It is also suitable for a date with an intimate environment and plenty to look at just in case your date turns out to be just a little on the boring side (haha!)
Try it for yourself soon and help, this week, to increase this restaurant’s already glowing reputation!
