Black-Owned Businesses Worth Your Mula

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

February is Black History Month, a time where we are able to celebrate the world wide contributions that Black people have made throughout history. While we praise and admire many Black historical icons, we should appreciate the work and talent of all Black creators and business owners today! Here are some Black-owned businesses that I’ve personally broken my bank for, and that I think are more than worth sharing!

Denzel Canvas

After going viral on Twitter for receiving a shoutout from Zendaya, I checked out Denzel’s clothing line. The wide variety of hoodies, T-shirts, sweatshirts, and blankets – all with the signature product label design on the back – instantly drew me in. There are hoodies designed specifically for each zodiac sign (I bought the Aries one of course) and his most popular “Black is Beautiful” hoodie is a staple in my closet right now. Alaffia

For my melanin goddesses, this shop has the GOODIES. Shea butter, coconut oil, African Black Soap – you name it, Alaffia’s got it. Not only are their products plant-based and cruelty-free, but their profits go towards their Empowerment Projects! These include Education-Based Projects, Maternal Health, FGM Eradication, Eyeglasses and Environmental Sustainability and more, all of which are executed in Togo, West Africa. So their products are bomb, and their mission is inspiring. Check this place out if you know what’s good for you. Click here for a link to shop!

Sorella

Ya’ll. If Missguided, Pretty Little Thing, and Nasty Gal had a lovechild, it would be Sorella. This boutique sells vintage clothing that absolutely pops off. Every time I go on this site, I pray for my bank account because I know I’m about to be broke within minutes. Ariana Grande, Khloe Kardashian, and Kylie Jenner have all been seen rocking the brand, so you know I’m not playing around with this one. They even have the cutest little sweatsuits for kids! The owner of this business is Heather Sanders, and lemme tell you, she’s a hustler. A 31 year old CEO and aquarius queen, she created this online boutique as a way to encourage women and teenage girls in America to purchase high-end quality fashion goods, especially if they are outside of Los Angeles and New York City. Talk to her nice! Click here for a link to shop.

Ivy’s Tea Co.

I’m not usually a fan of tea, but this company has completely changed my mind. Ivy’s Tea offers organic, herb-infused honeys with iconic names like “Shmoney”, their popular orange-spice flavor, and “Side Piece”, their cinnamon-infused flavor. Each of their honeys pair beautifully with the owner’s suggested tea, and have made me fall in love with the taste, and daily ritual, of a nice hot cup of tea. Not only do they have calming agents, but their “Not Coffee” is a signature for this brand. The Not Coffee is an herbal coffee substitute with a blend of chicory root, cinnamon, carob and vanilla. If you’re addicted to coffee, this is your way out!! They even have spoons with the words “Spill the tea” engraved. How could you not love this place?! Click here for a link to shop.
