Learning To Love Your Sexuality (Even If You’re Not Rihanna)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LMU chapter.

“Sexuality” (noun): the capacity for sexual feelings

Maybe I should’ve just named this article “How to Be Comfortable in Your Own Skin” because that’s basically all there is to it. Please trust me, I am no expert in this field of self-confidence. I am simply a 20 year old girl who is trying, and honestly I am writing this article to reassure myself that I am not alone.

In 2018, with its surplus of Instagram models, it’s easy to believe that the shame behind being both a woman and a sexual-being is gone, but it’s really not. Sure, society has made some big steps in accepting “sexual women” (i.e. 99% of women), but we still have a long way to go.

Like I said before, being comfortable in your sexuality begins and ends with being comfortable in your own skin. If I look in the mirror and don’t believe that I am the most desireable and lovely person alive, it’s gonna be difficult for anyone else to believe it… I’m definitely not saying that it’s going to be easy, but positive thoughts do, in fact, produce positive results.

My first (and perhaps only) tip for owning your feminine sexuality is this: PUT YOURSELF FIRST. That’s it. That’s all I got. Put yourself first when it comes to your wants and needs. Put yourself first when it comes to your safety and health. At the end of the day, it’s your body and your life. Why let other people have a say on how you view it?

But don’t just listen to me. Check out these sex positive blogs & websites created by women for women that I’ve linked below! :)

Sex Positive Blogs and Sites:

Strange Bedfellows PDX: It’s a podcast! Elle, a sex educator, and Jen, a “private investigator”, join forces to talk about sex and politics.

Simply Oloni: Dami Olonisakin, is an award winning sex & relationship content creator. She’s also a great writer. Her site discusses everything you’re too afraid to ask about sex and relationships.
