A couple weeks ago, I got the opportunity to go to the Rebecca Minkoff Spring 2017 Runway Show at The Grove in LA. I Am That Girl LMU, a girl love and female empowerment club on campus was given tickets to bring their members to the show that weekend. Although the show wasn’t till later that evening, we decided to arrive at noon to catch some of the pre-show events.
The Grove itself was decorated beautifully, with a pop-up shop to buy Rebecca’s collection, and even a chance to meet Lauren Conrad. Glam Squad had stations set up for complimentary makeup and hair-braiding for anyone in the area, and Essie had their nail manicurists for anyone willing to wait in line. All these events combined with clothing stores such as Topshop and Nordstroms helped engage guests and visitors for the few hours leading up to the show.
The runway itself started around 5 pm, and as guests we were left a few goodies on our seats, including a Laduree macaroon! Special appearances were made in the audience by popular youtubers such as Eva Gutowski, Meredith Foster, some actors and models. The show’s duration was about 20-30 minutes and Rebecca’s line was absolutely amazing. I personally loved the whole women empowerment message she had based her collection on, especially the clutch that said “The Future is Female.”Â
The models included Victoria Justice (!!!), Coco Rocha (from America’s Next Top Model), and famous fashion bloggers/youtubers including Aimee Song (from Song of Style), Chriselle Lim, and many others. MILCK made an appearance with their #ICantKeepQuiet Choir, concluding the whole show with Aimee Song walking down with Rebecca Minkoff.
I definitely felt the feminine badass energy as I was surrounded by wonderful successful women that defied stereotypes to make a name for themselves. Overall I would say that was an amazing experience, and made me really grateful to go to school in LA with all these opportunities.
