What a dream it would be if we were to wake up one day everything was better! The pandemic would be over as fast as it started. However, reality has a funny way of disappointing the masses. There is a silver lining in these dark cloudy days, and that’s the option of getting some financial assistance. The SNAP program has recently been extended to college students who are struggling to afford nice meals at the moment. The pandemic has made working harder and finding a job even more difficult. If you find yourself scraping the bottom of the pot with little to no family, friends, or neighbor to help, this may be an article that was sent from heaven.

What is it?

SNAP stands for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and this program provides for more than 9.5 million families. Even before the pandemic, a lot of low-income, disabled, and elderly people were struggling to have enough money to live and eat. I know those sound the same, but if you understand the true struggle you know exactly what I mean.

How does it work?

Essentially, if you are eligible and have been approved to receive the benefit, you would be issued an EBT card. This card will be automatically refilled at its appropriate time. When it is ready to be used, you can purchase groceries to its set limit. It must be real groceries, so no nonfood items or alcohol can be bought with the card. Only items like meat, bread, dairy, fruit, and vegetables.

Being in college during a pandemic is already taking a toll on our mental health, but we will not let it take a toll on our physical health, too. It’s so easy to order out on Doordash or uberEats this time of day. However, I know your body will thank you for eating home-cooked and balanced meals every so often. Those groceries can get expensive real quick. So if you think that this program is something that will improve your life, here’s the link below that goes into detail about the program and how to apply.

Hello! I am junior at LA Tech University. My major is Medical Technology but what I really love to do is be creative. Whether it is DIY projects, sewing, painting, etc. Random fact:I love sunflowers and roses! (Best combination of flowers to me) ^_^
I'm a Junior Creative Writing major and Editor in Cheif for the Her Campus chapter at Louisiana Tech University, who hopes to be a professional writer/editor one day! I love to joke around, but also talk about critical moments in my life and those that surround me to hopefully offer entertainment and guidance to my readers!
