Ever wonder what you can do around the holidays when you’re bored? Living in a small state or a small-town can be hard to come up with things to do any time of year, but I can assure you there are ALWAYS things to do around Christmas! This might be a long list (I just loved seeing these ideas come to life) so bear with me.
-
Decorating- My family, friends, and I love to decorate together. It’s a form of bonding, knowing more about each other’s style and making memories that’ll last a lifetime.
-
Picking a Christmas tree (real or fake) and decorating it
-
Watching classic Christmas movies- It’s a Wonderful Life, Home Alone, The Grinch who Stole Christmas
-
Drinking hot chocolate
-
Going to a Christmas parade- Every year of high school I was in the band, and I got to march in the Christmas parade. It was so much fun that I go back annually to admire other people in the parade.
-
Watching fireworks
-
Baking cookies
-
Drinking eggnog- There’s plenty of good recipes on Pinterest!
-
Saving money for presents
-
Wrapping presents
-
Make a Christmas Shoe Box/donate- I’ve written another article about Christmas Shoe Box. If you haven’t read it, it’s a program where you put necessities and toys for children in other countries who have never gotten a Christmas present before. https://www.hercampus.com/school/louisiana-tech/season-giving
-
Have a Christmas photoshoot with friends or by yourself
-
Go to a Christmas party/throw your own
-
Play dirty Santa/white elephant or other games
-
Ugly sweater contest
-
Take a picture with your friends or family and create a Christmas card
-

-
Go to a Christmas play
-
Write a letter to an old friend or a family member
-
Ice Skating- I know there’s an ice skating rink in Shreveport, La at the local mall. I’ve only been once when I was a kid, but I hope to do it again soon.
Take a weekend to drive somewhere where you can see snow- I’m used to never really seeing snow or not a whole lot of it, so my friends and I usually drive to another city or state to site-see and have snowball fights! There is a lot of things to do this Christmas in general, not just here in Ruston, La. I hope this gave you a few good ideas this holiday season, so you won’t feel bored or not have any fun/memorable plans. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, so you don’t catch a cold. Hopefully, it won’t be long before we can get back to our normal lives without social distancing(#covid2020).
