Having trouble navigating the ins and outs of Loyola? Are you afraid your freshmen-ness will give you away? Worry no more! Here are 8 unspoken rules that everyone should know when wandering the halls, streets, or really anywhere in general around campus:
1. Don’t be a budger
When leaving Water Tower Campus, it is crucial to remember that the line for the shuttle begins INSIDE Corboy, not outside against the wall. To avoid whispers and eye rolls, move inside to wait your turn, no matter how long the line is.
2. Elevator Etiquette
Don’t be that person who takes the elevator to the third floor in Mundelein. Take the stairs unless your class is on floor 5 (debatable) or higher, or beware of the death stares!
Â
3. Rules of the Road Apply
Walk on the right side of… anything! Rules of road apply to walking too! Stay to the right in the hallways, the sidewalks and down the stairs. Also, avoid walking in big groups that take up the entire sidewalk.
4. Eye Spy a Freshman
Don’t wear your lanyard around your neck. End of story.
5. Shhh!
Help out your fellow students by not gabbing away in all areas of the IC, library, or stacks. Floors of the IC become quieter as you go up the stairs, and the library and stacks are not the places to socialize… C’mon now, just be respectful!
6. Shuttle Seats
No one wants to stand on the shuttle unless they have to. Don’t have your backpack take up one seat, and your water bottle take up the other. One seat per tooshie.
7. Don’t wander you’re clearly lost
Find a party beforehand; don’t wander the streets in huge groups waiting for a door to open to a party.Â
8. Personal Space
The excitement is real when you find an open machine in Halas during busy hours! However, when the gym isn’t packed, feel free to grab a machine that is not right next to someone else… when there are plenty more open that don’t crowd someone’s personal space.
Remember these 8 rules to make life easier and everyone happier!
