My Monthly Recap: January 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUC chapter.

What a month January has been! From adjusting to a new and busier schedule than last semester to talking endlessly during rush weekend, the month of January has been quite eventful for me. Despite all the craziness, I decided to compile a list of some of the items, moments, and music (among other things) that truly made this month amazing!

Makeup

Starting off, allow me to introduce you to the No 7 High Shine Lip Gloss. Now this is an absolute gem. I was in dire need of a new lip gloss – one of the many essential products I keep in my makeup bag – and strolled in to Walgreens one afternoon on a mission to find something both affordable yet effective! After consulting with the girl behind the front desk I decided to pick up this particular gloss and let me tell you: it did not disappoint. The reason behind its greatness is the fact that unlike most lip glosses, it is not sticky yet still produces a beautiful shiny glow that your traditional gloss would. Another plus is that it is only $10, so you get a lot of bang for your buck! I will definitely continue to purchase this in the future.

Fashion

My fashion-favorite this month was flare jeans! I’ve been wanting a pair of these for months now and searched on Pinterest for hours to find a store that supplied a wide selection with great quality. Luckily, I was able to find a perfect pair at Free People and actually decided to wear them on bid night of sorority rush. Although on the pricier side, these jeans are an amazing investment and compliment your figure! I will link them here for anyone interested! I am a size 26 for reference.

Music

My music throwback has been a 90’s-early 2000 playlist that I found on Spotify. Usually during the winter time, I put on some sad Drake songs which eventually get a bit depressing…to say the least. I decided to try some light and happy throwback music while I studied and noticed a complete change in my mood. Music definitely feeds the soul. I suppose there’s something about that era that speaks to me. The Nokia flip phones and retro glasses — what an era for fashion and music! Let’s not forget the icons that rules our childhood like Hilary Duff, Vanessa Hudges and Lindsey Lohan. What I wouldn’t give to have those glory days back. This playlist definitely makes me feel like it’s 2007 again.

Movies

The best movie I watched this month was a thriller called Fractured. Late one night I found it within the bottomless pit of Amazon Prime movies and decided to give it a try. I really didn’t think I’d be impressed, but I was sure  wrong! The movie features a British couple who decide to go on a small getaway, and slowly but surely everything starts to go wrong. Although it’s not the best horror/thriller I’ve seen, it definitely is worth a watch if you have the time. As I stated earlier, you can find it on Amazon Prime!

Memory

My favorite memory this month was going through sorority rush! It was so fun having a reason to get all dolled up, meet some amazing people, and eventually find my home. I am so happy to be in Chi Omega, and I’ve met so many amazing sisters so far. I hope to make many more memories and life long friends!

Quote

My favorite qoute this month is one I found on pinterest that says “Reapeat to yourself: good things are coming, good things are coming, good things are coming.” This quote really stuck with me this month as I’ve been trying to practice manifestation and continuously tell myself to stay positive even in the midst of challenges and confrontation. Reminding yourself of all good things in your life is a great way to keep going. I include many quotes similar to this on my pinterest board which I will link here if you are interested!

Amidst the chaos this month, it has been one of the most memorable of my life and I am so grateful! I am excited for what’s to come in February and will keep you updated. I hope you all enjoyed this month as well and I wish you positivity and light in the coming one. Love always, Kayla.
