Loyola University Maryland’s Ridley Athletic Complex was a buzzing sight to see this past Saturday. The Loyola Men’s Lacrosse team had their first game of the season against Georgetown University.
I had the opportunity to go to my first lacrosse game at Loyola, and it was not disappointing!
Beginning at 12PM, students were able to arrive at the stadium through shuttles provided by Loyola. At the entrances, students were greeted with free Loyola hats and merchandise, as well!
Despite being a small school, the student section was packed, noisy and filled with green and gray. Parents, children, alumni and staff were seen cheering on athletes alongside the student section.
Iggy, the lovely Loyola mascot stood below the stands riling up fans and leading cheers. In between quarters, Loyola staff had T-shirt giveaways, buy-one-get-one snack offers and much more.
The lacrosse games are truly a wonderful experience, and students feel as though it’s a great way to show school spirit. They’re an event in itself, even if you’re not a huge sports fan.
Lacrosse is fast paced and exciting, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. Loyola is strong and mighty when it comes to lacrosse, and it’s genuinely an experience like no other to attend school sports events.
Loyola defeated Georgetown 18-10, setting a good note for the rest of the season. They go head to head against University of Maryland in just another week.
