“RENT”: Loyola’s Involvement in the Award Winning Musical

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at LUM chapter.

Are you a theater fan? Loyola University’s theater troupe on campus, the Evergreen Players, offers reduced price tickets to theaters around Baltimore and Washington, D.C..

This past weekend, the club offered $20 tickets to see RENT the musical. The theater was packed and the crowd was buzzing before the curtain opened.

The show was performed at the Iron Crow Theatre, a smaller theater within the Hippodrome Theatre in Baltimore.

RENT made history by already extending their sold out, critically acclaimed, and award winning production, in addition to being the first theatrical performance in the newly renovated space.

Loyola representation could be seen everywhere within this production, with junior Emily Coccovizzo as Assistant Stage Manager, Professor Dr. Natka Bianchini as Managing Director of Iron Crow Theater, and Professor Dr. Frank Golom as Treasurer and member of the Boards Directors.

The show follows the lives of a group of impoverished artists in New York City who are also dealing with the AIDS epidemic.

The soundtrack–mostly rock music, features catchy tunes and heartfelt lyrics, leaving audience members feeling empathy and enamored with all the characters.

Bella Masso, class of 2025, and member of the Evergreen Players, shared her opinion on why students should take advantage of the tickets.

“Theater tickets are unfortunately not cheap, and we’re in college and not everyone can be spending $60, $70 on a mezzanine seat. So, taking these advantages through Loyola really helps us get exposure, and to learn about different things in the industry.”
