Think back to one of your favorite memories from high school or middle school. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? Memories can affect the way we approach life no matter how big or small that memory is.
One of my favorite memories from high school is seeing the band Meet Me @ The Altar. If you don’t know, Meet Me @ The Altar, is an all-girl, women of color, pop punk group who are on the rise to fame! The three-piece group is from Georgia, Florida, and New Jersey. I had seen them play in February of 2018 at a restaurant near me. I had originally wanted to see them because I wanted to meet their drummer, my favorite YouTuber at the time, Ada Juarez. I was super excited to meet her, as I had been watching her videos practically every week for two years at the time! I had gotten there early so I could see them set up and hang out before their set. I got to speak to her, get the band’s autographs (which I still have), and take a few pictures. It was one of my favorite experiences that I love looking back upon!
Looking back on the night, and seeing as they are as huge as they are now, made me realize a few things. Of course, for one, it was extremely cool to get to meet a band before they really got going on with their career. But it’s also cool to look back on the memories that night made and seeing how they influenced my music taste. At the time, I was listening to other bands that were similar to them so I wanted to see what other music they made after the show by downloading their album. It was no surprise that their music was right up my alley!
When you look back on experiences in your life, at first it can be really exciting. However, there are only certain memories that can make us realize some really special and cool things, like me being able to meet Meet Me @ The Altar before they got big. So next time you go somewhere cool, or meet someone unforgettable, store that memory in a special spot of your mind. You never know when it might affect you later. The tiniest moments in our lives can impact us on our opinion on something, inspire us, or even change the way we think. New experiences are at every corner so keep a lookout!
