From Goodbyes to Hellos: Being Reunited with College Friends

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Lynn chapter.

We all dread the time when it comes to saying  goodbye. For me my first year of college was coming to an end, it was something that I was glad had come to an end but I was also sad about. You are in a whirlwind of emotions. For me what I was dreading the most was thinking what am I gonna do for the next 3 1/2 months? I had made such great friends and all I wanted to do was spend time with them but then we all went home and during this time all we wanted was to be back together.

If you were lucky enough like me to make amazing friends during your first year at college your college experience can only get better. I was fortunate enough to find the people I did. We all understood each other and had similar backgrounds and for me once in my life my friends could actually understand some of the things I was talking about even though I’m a South African amongst a group of American friends. But anyways the time came for us to say our goodbyes and as we all went our separate ways to where we were from. My biggest goal was to stay in contact with them at 3 1/2 months is a long time and a lot can change during that time. It was especially difficult for me as I went back home to South Africa and the time zones made it really hard to speak to my friends.

Before I knew it I was heading back to Florida to be reunited with my friends. I think we were all looking forward to this moment as we realized our lives are now in Florida and not in our hometowns anymore and for some reason you seem to get bored when you go home when your friends are all in different places. When we were reunited it was a mix of emotions happiness and The best part was I did not feel like we had been apart for so long. The one thing I love about my friends is even though we’re so similar we’re still so different and we feel comfortable around each other and not judged. When you feel this way you really don’t care what anyone else thinks and you’re just happy that you’re happy. It is amazing the amount of joy this brings you. All I wish for is to have an amazing sophomore year with my amazing friends and I wish everyone else the same.
