15 Ways Thanksgiving is Just Like The Hunger Games

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

Our favorite time of the year is finally here! After an exhausting semester we are finally getting a much-needed and well-deserved holiday break. The long weekend is the perfect time to reconnect with friends, family, and our full-sized beds. Thanksgiving can feel like The Hunger Games, with so many things to do and so many people to see. And with the release of the first installment of Mockingjay earlier this month, we can’t ignore the obvious similarities the two share – besides survival of the fittest, of course.

So here’s a look at Thanksgiving Break, Hunger Games style:

It all starts when your last class is finally over.

You have packed an unnecessary amount for five days, but you’ve never been happier to get off campus and go home.

After hours of listening to Taylor Swift and sitting in holiday traffic, you finally enter your hometown.

You feel insanely happy when you get to see your high-school friends for the first time in three months.

You wake up on Thanksgiving morning and immediately begin mentally preparing for how much food you are going to consume.

You start to watch the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade and every time a performance comes on you think “I can do that.”

Then family starts to arrive, casseroles in hand, and your mom warns you to be nice.

Everyone is scurrying around the kitchen, asking for helping hands.

But when someone needs a taste-tester you are absolutely available.

Dinner is finally ready! People start settling around the table and you realize that you are seated at the kid’s section.

Your eyes start to tear as you look at the Thanksgiving spread that everyone, besides you, slaved away for.

With so many different options up for grab you just can’t decide.

So you just dive right in.

Dessert comes out and everyone is afraid to try the rookies pumpkin pie.

The food is gone, along with your self-esteem, and you have now entered a comatose state.

Then suddenly you remember that final exams are coming up.

Happy Thanksgiving! And may the odds be ever in your favor.
