“New Year, new me,” many say as the new year approaches! As the new year has quickly come, most people have started their new year resolutions and maybe even gave up at this point. Many resolutions contain the idea of staying fit and healthy which is very important for one’s health. As a female college student, your physical and mental state may not be your main priority as professors bombard us all with work and as social aspects distract us. For this new year, we should think about ourselves and the way we treat our bodies. The thought of working out and having a strict diet may not be for you and trust me, it does not have to. There are many easy ways to stay fit with or without making it your life or daily concern.
Online workout videos/classes
With corona, it may be hard to get yourself out and go to the gym or your gym may even be closed. Do not worry! There are many great and easy workout videos on youtube or even maybe your gym’s website (planet fitness) that everyone can follow. These videos can be advanced or intermediate and no matter what will get your body moving which is overall the most important.
Use the stairs
This method of staying fit may be one of the easiest, but in the moment it’s one of the worst. Instead of taking an elevator or a ramp, try taking the stairs instead. Stair climbing burns many calories without even realizing it and can even equal the intensity of a moderate workout! By climbing the stairs you are building leg muscle and improving your joints and bones all in one. Increasing your leg power in your early years can possibly help reduce instability as an elder.
Stretch every day
First and foremost, stretching is very important for increasing your flexibility and range of motion. Stretching daily can increase your performance in physical activities, while also improving posture and acting as a stress reliever.
Drink plenty of water
You may have heard of the concept to drink eight 8-ounce glasses of water each day. While that may seem like a lot for one, it actually has a lot of health benefits behind it! First, staying hydrated is very important for the human body. Your brain’s activity is strongly dependent on how much water you are consuming. This can affect your energy levels and of course your brain function. Lastly, it can also aid in weight loss. When people think of staying fit, they might think of losing weight or gaining muscle. Well, this could be your first minor step. Drinking more water can increase your metabolism, which will then increases the number of calories you burn daily.
Make healthy alternatives for your food
There are so many new health tricks and food alternatives that can make cooking and eating easier and healthier. Try eating wheat bread instead of white or even look for foods that are lower in calories than what you currently consume. This can be an easy step to help weight loss and even to just eat well!
I hope these tips help you stay fit for the New Year!
