Fashion Trends We Are Seeing Everywhere in 2017

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Manhattan chapter.

The new year is the perfect opportunity for some fresh and clean outfit inspiration. You might not be quite ready to stop wearing those classic over-the-knee boots and button-front skirts or culottes and bell-sleeve tops but we thought we would get you covered. Listed below are fashion trends that you are guaranteed to see in 2017.

Floral Embroidery

We aren’t talking about digging into your grandmother’s closet and pulling out patches and appliqué designs. Think traditional, yet modern stitching on everything and anything from jeans to bomber jackets that can create a pretty, folky vibe.

Fancy Sneakers

This year we are noticing a lot more fancy kicks and designer sneakers on the streets. With eye-catching embellishments and bright colors, these are not your typical walking sneakers. These fresh shoes will be a welcoming upgrade from your plain white sneakers, and you can still wear them with just about any outfit ensemble.

Raw-Hem Denim

Over the previous years we have noticed jeans with asymmetrical hems and frayed edges hitting the fashion scene. This trend is finally staying around in a big way. In your next shopping trip, look for jeans that are vintage high-quality that frays quite nicely at your ankle.

Sheer Fabrics

Sheer is having a big moment right now. From dresses to tops and skirts, sheer has taken over. It’s no surprise that this trend came into play when bodysuits rose. They come hand in hand, perfect for layering under the see-through fabrics.

Block Heels

This shoe trend began to rise the previous year of 2016. And it looks like they are here to stay. The chunky heels trend dominated the spring runway shows, which means you should go snag yourself a pair. Additionally, they are so much easier to walk in than your regular stilettos.

Sweatshirts

Of course, this is an apparel piece that we all wear in private (usually with a box of pizza and reruns of Friends displayed on our TV or laptop), but sweatshirts are now making their way in the public scene. Wear a sweatshirt (preferably without any food or grease stains) tucked into a pair of high-waisted pants or vintage raw-hem denim jeans or a pleated skirt.

Pattern Mixing

This is one of my personal favorites. Done with matching sets and move on to contrasting pieces. The new year is full of opportunities and changing it up, and what better way than rocking two pieces of different patterns?
